In Conversation with Sally Wang...
What inspired you to become a makeup artist?
I did it when I was little, but didn't know it was a job. Later in life I met my mentor, Francesca Tolot, and learned what it means to be an artist and a professional. So, you could say, I was inspired by discovering how I could make people beautiful for a living.
What advice would you give someone looking to become a professional makeup artist?
Practice, practice, practice. On yourself, your friends, your mother, and so on. Do tests with aspiring photographers, models, hairdressers, and stylists where you can try new techniques and looks. Be adventurous enough to make mistakes because that's how you learn.
What is the biggest mistake you see people making with cosmetics?
Too heavy. Not blending well. Paying too little attention to lighting.
What three items would you want with you on a desert island?
Sunscreen, and my two dogs.
What is your biggest guilty pleasure?
Shopping online : )
Where is your favorite place to relax?
A really nice hotel. With room service.
Do you have a makeup secret to help women look younger?
Use multiple products with a lighter hand. Less is more in this case.
What are your favorite CARGO products?
I love the Oil Free Foundation for many reasons. The formula is so creamy it's hard to believe it is oil free! The coverage is very natural and great for everyday, but lightweight, so you don't feel like you have foundation on. And, the packaging is just a BONUS for traveling and professionals. The OneBase is amazing too! This product is smart because it will conceal darkness and flaws and blend out to work as foundation, making it great to carry.
Is there a CARGO product you think everyone should own?
OneBase! This dual product is genius. It's a great concealer that has strong pigment without being dry, so it blends beautifully. The fewer products I have to carry in my purse the better.
